Dallas Municipal Court is going to get a technological face lift as of Halloween. The city counsel decided to finally update the main frame that manages the court dockets for Dallas Municipal Court. If you have ever had any dealings with Dallas Municipal Court’s Information Technology Department it is comical. It reminds me of that dude in “Office Space” that lost his stapler.

These changes are much needed and are intended to target areas of serious concern that Dallas has with communication deficiencies between court services and the Dallas Police Department. Tyler Technologies looks to be the new I.T. company that will take on the project.

Now, what does this mean for an average citizen who receives a traffic ticket in Dallas? It probably doesn’t mean much yet. A new system doesn’t mean a better system. So long as the Dallas Police Department refuses to admit that they are part of the problem, we will probably be hearing stories of the inability of Dallas Municipal Court to generate revenue for years to come. The system will probably not be online for at least a year. From there it is a matter of working out the “kinks.” What are those kinks going to be? Another good question! We shall see.
